Sara Magalio is currently pursuing a JD at the Duke University School of Law. She previously worked as the editorial production assistant for Design Museum Everywhere, a nonprofit, online, exhibition-based museum with the mission to bring the transformative power of design everywhere. In January 2021, she graduated from the Boston University College of Communication, receiving a Master of Science degree in journalism.
Sara worked as the editor-in-chief of The BU COMmunicator, the official student-run multimedia website of Boston University’s Department of Mass Communication, Advertising and Public Relations. Sara also covered the Massachusetts Statehouse for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in the spring 2020 semester as part of the Boston University Statehouse Program, and she contributed to BU’s online news platform, Boston University News Service.
Sara graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in May 2019, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance performance. Sara served as editor-in-chief for SMU’s online news publication, The Daily Campus, and worked as a breaking news reporter intern for the Dallas Morning News in the fall 2019 semester. In the spring semester of her senior year, Sara worked as an online news reporter intern at D Magazine, focusing on politics and urbanism in Dallas. Previously, Sara worked as the assignments editor for The Daily Campus, overseeing contributors and reporting students from pitching to publication. Sara has also worked various technical positions for the SMU daily news show, The Daily Update, gaining pre-professional training in broadcast news writing and technical positions such as director, technical director, floor director, audio engineer, teleprompter and video server.
Sara is proficient in AP style, reporting and editing, and she has experience in WordPress, SEO, Google Analytics, social media and basic HTML/CSS. She has been trained on Avid iNews and can shoot video using a Sony NX5U HD Camera and Canon Rebel T5 DSLR. Sara also edits videos using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X and iMovie.
